Earlier this year, drummer BILL WARD said he wouldn’t participate in a BLACK SABBATH reunion unless he was presented with a “signable contract.” Well, he never got it, so now he’s officially pulling out of the reunion.

–He made this statement in a long post on his website, BillWard.com.

–Toward the end, he says, quote, “I hold no malice or resentment towards the other band members. I love them, I’m tolerant of them, I’m frustrated with them, as they may be with me. My fight has never been with them. I’ll love them forever.

–”In my opinion, nobody wins this time . . . the band doesn’t win, the fans for an original lineup don’t win. Nobody wins, nobody. Even the ones who thought they did.”

–Sabbath’s first of three reunion shows is happening this Saturday in their hometown of Birmingham, England. (–If you even want to consider it a reunion anymore.)

(–Bill didn’t say this, but his issue is probably with SHARON OSBOURNE. Clearly, he’s not seeing eye-to-eye with someone . . . and he went out of his way to exonerate the other band members in the letter.)

(–Perhaps Sharon and the rest of the band’s management drew things up so OZZY would get the biggest cut. Or maybe Ozzy and TONY IOMMI.)

(–And maybe bassist GEEZER BUTLER was OK with that . . . and Bill wasn’t.)

UFC Fighter Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, who has fought for K-1, Shooto and Dream, was in a Tokyo subway when he spotted an injured man on the tracks. Yahoo! Japan has been reporting his actions saved the man’s life.

Yamamoto jumped onto the tracks when he saw the injured man was laying on tracks and bleeding heavily from his forehead. He tried to lift him off, but couldn’t do it on his own. Yamamoto convinced bystanders to help him pull the man of the tracks. Together, they moved him off the tracks to safety before the next train came along. The injured man is now in stable condition at an area hospital.

After an impressive career in Japan, Yamamoto lost three straight fights in the UFC. His last bout was a submission loss to Vaughan Lee at UFC 144 in February.

The class of 2012 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on Saturday night.

–You wrongly chose to live a drug-free, monogamous life.

–You’re in Great White and organizers are too scared to let you perform live.

–You’re a Canadian progressive rock band known for complex compositions, eclectic lyrical motifs and whatever else Wikipedia says about Rush.

–It requires talent. And, well, there ya go . . .

–You’re in a cover band that covers bands that cover U2.

–Insane Clown Posse just heard your demo and told you to ease up on the gimmicks.

–When OTHER musicians refer to themselves as “multi-instrumentalists,” usually they’re not referring to the tambourine and the triangle.

–You have all the boyish good looks of a young Ryan Seacrest . . . and half the charisma.

–When people hear your music, they frequently exclaim, “Man, that guy sounds just like a slightly less macho Right Said Fred!”

–You just released an album featuring nothing but Baha Men covers.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame held their induction ceremony in Cleveland on Saturday . . . and as expected, AXL didn’t show.

–The ceremony was five-and-a-half hours long. It wasn’t televised live. HBO will cut it down to a two-and-a-half hour show, which will premiere on May 5th.

The Beginning:

–GREEN DAY started things off by performing their song “Letterbomb”. They were there to induct GUNS N’ ROSES.

–Singer BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG got the crowd fired up by shouting, quote, “Stand up . . . this is [effing] rock ‘n’ roll! . . . this is a celebration, [mothereffers].”

The Guns N’ Roses Induction:

–Billie Joe called “Appetite for Destruction”, quote, “the best debut album in the history of rock ‘n’ roll.” And added, quote, “The thing that set them apart from everyone else was guts, heart and soul. Most important, they told the truth.”

–After introducing the members that were there, he said, quote, “Let’s see, who am I missing?” That brought LOUD BOOS from the crowd, but Billie said, quote, “Shut up. [Axl] was the greatest frontman to ever step in front of a microphone.”

–Axl wasn’t the only classic member of Guns that didn’t make it. Original guitarist IZZY STRADLIN and keyboardist DIZZY REED also weren’t there.

–Drummer MATT SORUM was there . . . and he joked about coming in to replace original drummer STEVEN ADLER, who was kicked out for doing too many drugs.

–He said, quote, “I said, ‘In Guns N’ Roses, how the [eff] is that possible?!’ Steven Adler deserves an award for THAT.”

–Steven was there, along with SLASH and DUFF MCKAGAN. They teamed up for a three-song set that included “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City”.

–MYLES KENNEDY from ALTER BRIDGE sang . . . and onetime guitarist GILBY CLARKE was also onstage, even though he wasn’t inducted with Guns. Billie Joe from Green Day joined them for “Mr. Brownstone”.

–It’s the first time in nearly 20 years that Slash, Duff and Steven performed together.

Guns N’ Roses Doesn’t Mention Axl, But Chris Rock Does:

–No one from Guns mentioned Axl directly, but Duff did say, quote, “I don’t know that it matters who’s here tonight, because it’s about the music that these bands played.”

–But comedian CHRIS ROCK, who was there to induct the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, took a shot at Axl, and his chronic lateness. He joked, quote, “A lot of people are upset that Axl didn’t come tonight. But let’s face it . . .

–”Even if he was coming, he wouldn’t be here by now. Where the [eff] is Axl?”

How Chris Rock Fell in Love with the Chili Peppers:

–Chris told an amusing story about how he became such a huge Chili Peppers fan. He said he was in Philadelphia to see a GRANDMASTER FLASH show, but he went into the wrong club.

–He explained, quote, “My friends and I were like, ‘What the [eff] is this [crap]? There’s a lot of white people in here. They came out and I couldn’t understand [an effing] word they said, and they had socks on their [genitals]!

–”I had never been to a white show before, so I thought all white groups put socks on their [genitals]. Years later, they’re one of the biggest groups in the world and getting inducted into the [Rock Hall]. They have black ties on their [genitals] tonight.”

The Other, Non-Axl Absences:

–The Guns no-shows weren’t the only people missing. FACES was supposed to reunite for their first performance together since 1993 . . . but it didn’t happen because ROD STEWART came down with the flu and stayed home.

–So, Faces performed a set with SIMPLY RED singer MICK HUCKNALL, who’s recently served as their singer. It included “Ooh La La” and “Stay with Me”.

–The BEASTIE BOYS were without ADAM YAUCH, a.k.a. “MCA”, who’s recovering from cancer, and wasn’t able to make it. AD ROCK and MIKE D were in the house.

–There wasn’t a proper Beastie Boys performance . . . but Kid Rock, Travie McCoy from Gym Class Hereos, and Black Thought from The Roots put on matching green tracksuits and performed a Beastie Boys medley that included “Sabotage” and “No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn”.

The All-Star Jam Ending:

–The ceremony finished up with a Chili Peppers set that included “By the Way”.

–The Peppers then led an all-star jam of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground” to close it out. They were joined onstage by: Ron Wood and Kenney Jones of Faces, Slash, George Clinton, Funkadelic guitarist Michael Hampton, and Billie Joe Armstrong.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is disappointed that AXL ROSE won’t attend tomorrow’s induction ceremony, but as expected, they’re inducting GUNS N’ ROSES . . . with him as a member . . . whether he likes it or not.

–The Rock Hall released this statement:

–”We are sorry Axl will not be able to accept his induction in person. We are looking forward to still inducting Guns N’ Roses this weekend and will proceed forward with our original plan whether Axl is present or not.”the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Stated.

–Axl has not responded.

–In his open letter to the Rock Hall, Axl said, quote, “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia . . . [and no one] should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of Guns N’ Roses.”

–Also, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are performing, but they’ll be without longtime guitarist John Frusciante, who couldn’t make it. John quit the Peppers four years ago while the band was on hiatus.

Anyone who was hoping for a proper Guns N’ Roses reunion at this Saturday’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland–or anyone who was at least hoping to see the iconic hard rock band’s frontman, Axl Rose–must be very disappointed right now. Despite comments made by original drummer Steven Adler, who was understandably hoping for a GNR reunion one day, it turns out that Axl has no appetite for reconstruction when it comes to his group’s classic lineup. Once and for all ending speculation that he might attend this weekend’s Hall Of Fame ceremony in person, on Wednesday Axl sent a VERY open letter to the Los Angeles Times, not only making it clear that he’ll be sitting out the ceremony, but actually requesting that he not be inducted into the Hall at all.

“When the nominations for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame were first announced I had mixed emotions but, in an effort to be positive, wanting to make the most of things for the fans and with their enthusiasm, I was honored, excited and hoped that somehow this would be a good thing. Of course I realized as things stood, if Guns N’ Roses were to be inducted it’d be somewhat of a complicated or awkward situation,” Well, anyone who was hoping for a proper Guns N’ Roses reunion at this Saturday’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland–or anyone who was at least hoping to see the iconic hard rock band’s frontman, Axl Rose, show up with rumored new paramour Lana Del Rey as his date–must be very disappointed right now. “That said, I won’t be attending The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction 2012 Ceremony and I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘Guns N’ Roses.’”

Considering which GNR members are confirmed to show up at this weekend’s Hall Of Fame ceremony, it almost looks like Saturday’s show will seem more like a Velvet Revolver reunion than a celebration of GNR’s legacy. Along with Adler, Slash’s GNR/Velvet Revolver bandmate, Duff McKagan, will attend; it is still unclear if original GNR guitarist Izzy Stradlin, who has guested occasionally with Axl’s controversial new GNR lineup over the years, will show.

In Axl’s L.A. Times letter, the estranged singer also stated: “The only reason, at this point, under the circumstances, in my opinion whether under the guise of ‘for the fans’ or whatever justification of the moment, for anyone to continue to ask, suggest or demand a reunion are misguided attempts to distract from our efforts with our current [Guns N' Roses] lineup of myself, Dizzy Reed, Tommy Stinson, Frank Ferrer, Richard Fortus, Chris Pitman, Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal and DJ Ashba.”

Perhaps Axl’s no-show comes as no surprise to anyone who read Slash’s recent interview with Rolling Stone, in which the top-hatted axe-slinger bristled when asked about a potential Hall Of Fame reunion. “This is a subject I’m dead sick of talking about,” Slash said at the time. “Everyone has been asking me what’s going to happen, and they know as much as I do. I feel you’re totally obligated to be present and I would love to f****ing play, but it’s just something that’s not gonna happen for whatever reason….[Axl] hates my guts. It’s over a lot of different stuff; I don’t even know. There’s just no communication between us. I talk to Duff and Steven, but when it comes to old Guns N’ Roses, there really isn’t anybody that makes decisions.”

Green Day will induct GNR into the Hall, which means we may very well see Billie Joe Armstrong filling in for the absent Axl at Saturday’s ceremony. Other ’80s/’90s stars in attendance, as 2012 Hall inductees, will include the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys.

Slash’s sophomore solo set, “Apocalyptic Love,” isn’t out until May 22, but the guitarist has been working hard to get the word out about his upcoming release.

Slash recently performed in Toronto, has been doing tons of press interviews for the project, audio samples of the disc are online, and the guitarist’s team has been documenting the album’s progress on video.

Two new webisodes have been posted online, each showing parts of the audition process surrounding Slash’s need to add a touring rhythm guitarist to his lineup. “To put together this next record, I never planned on using a second guitar player, but as far as going out and doing the tour was concerned, I needed to find somebody local,” explains Slash. “We had a whole auditioning process where I think 20 people showed up, and [drummer] Brent [Fitz] and [bassist] Todd [Kerns] picked out who, more or less, was going to be a call-back, and then I went in the next day and played with those 5 guitar players.” Check out the videos
